Missing Garden Hill First Nation teen found dead kilometres from community

The head of Garden Hill First Nation says a missing teenager has been discovered dead, around 16 kilometers northwest of her group.

Dino Flett affirmed Sunday that Treasure Harper, 17, was discovered dead after volunteer searchers scoured the wide open after she disappeared a few days back.

"The family and group are in absolute stun of the disaster," said Flett.

Posts via web-based networking media from searchers demonstrate a guide where Harper's body was found. As searchers developed closer, they discovered she had been shedding her dress, including her cap and sweater — a conceivable indication of hypothermia.

Flett said the group isn't sure precisely what happened or why she was strolling north, yet RCMP said she may have been attempting to stroll to the group of Wasagamack, which is around 15 kilometers west of Garden Hill and just open by pontoon or strolling over the ice on Island Lake.

RCMP said Sunday a 17-year-old young lady disappeared on Nov. 29 however did not affirm Harper's name.

They said unfairness isn't suspected.
